Hello, Lovelies, How the hell are you?
So, here’s a story…
When Lauren Bacall made her screen debut in the 1944 classic To Have and Have Not, she was absolutely terrified. That first scene—now forever imprinted in Hollywood history—has her slouching in a doorway, casually catching a pack of matches tossed by Humphrey Bogart, lighting her cigarette with effortless cool, and then sauntering out of the room. The reality? Bacall fumbled the matchbox countless times, nerves getting the best of her. She was SO AFRAID that Hawks was going to FIRE her for not being able to catch THE STUPID MATCHES. To stop shaking, she pressed her chin down, stared up sharply—and accidentally invented the iconic 'Look' that would make her a legend.
But what about you? Have you ever been so fearful in the moment that you did something accidental that THEN turned out to be YOUR THING?
See how they use Bacall’s ‘Look’ when they cut the trailer together? It’s everything.
For my part, I uttered insane things while almost giving birth to my youngest daughter in Joan Rivers’s living room thereby accidentally confirming a career penning pithy zingers for the next twenty years under the nickname of ‘Mama’. (I had arrived on Joan’s Versailles-like doorstep—nine million months pregnant—and she took one look at me and said, “WTAF are you doing here, kid?” and I said, “I don’t f*cking know, lady, but I’m ten centimeters dilated and it’s like walking around New York with your purse open, so get me inside before this baby up and rolls into Bergdorf’s!” And she did.)
But now, it’s your turn… Tell us, crafty and quick-thinking reader, what happy accident or last-minute improv has become your forever thing?
Yours in Stolen Glances - xoxo - gotham girl

Everyday investors net +$60M in proceeds from the sale of exclusive asset
From CEOs to shop owners, investors in Masterworks’ art offerings have received more than +$60,000,000 in total net proceeds to date (including principal) across their 23 exits.*
Surprised that so many people are interested in art investing? Bank of America recently found 83% of wealthy American investors 43 and under already collect, or want to. Normally, only the top 1% of investors would be able to diversify with art like Picassos and Banksys. But with Masterworks, you can easily diversify into this asset class without needing millions, or art expertise.
With a team that’s been working since 2019, Masterworks investors have realized representative annualized net returns like +17.6%, +17.8%, and +21.5% among assets held for longer than one year.

“Net Annualized Return” refers to the annualized internal rate of return net of all fees and expenses, calculated from the offering closing date to the date the sale is consummated. IRR may not be indicative of Masterworks paintings not yet sold and past performance is not indicative of future results. For additional information regarding the calculation of IRR for a particular investment in an artwork that has been sold, a reconciliation will be filed as an exhibit to Form 1-U and will be available on the SEC’s website. Masterworks has realized illustrative annualized net returns of 17.6% (1067 days held), 17.8% (672 days held), and 21.5% (638 days held) on 13 works held longer than one year (not inclusive of works held less than one year and unsold works).
*“Net proceeds” represents the total liquidation proceeds distributed back to investors, net of all fees, expenses, and proceeds reinvested in Masterworks offerings, of all works Masterworks has exited to date. This metric is not considered a presentation of performance but rather a mathematical figure that displays a platform metric on size, scale, and operation of the platform.
Recently got shamed into doing one of those ice baths by some Laird Hamilton type surfer dudes. I tried to get out of it but after multiple invites, my wife and sons shamed me into going. When I got into the tub full of ice and freezing water for the first time, my feet slipped, I did a full backflip, head four feet under freezing water, completed the backflip like I meant to do it, stayed in for the full five minutes, was declared a legend, and thankfully never have to do that again.
Bwaha! Uh, no. Although that would make a great story. I love Miz Bacall's response after kissing Humphrey the second time: "It's even better when you help." Zing!
