When one of them dies, the ones I loved, I feel like I'm losing a family member, but not quite. Mostly because most of those celebs are nicer than my family...
"Diane Dies." Isn't it fascinating to realize how death-avoidant we are? And when we do choose to face it head-on, it feels like a slap in the face? Damn, it hurts.
It's completely fascinating how death-avoidant we are. Somehow, that it was pneumonia, something with so many treatments and even vaccines, makes it smart even more. :(
I’m cracking up about the jodphurs. You bought them for the perfect reason.
I’ve been in a funk since Diane died. I saw Annie Hall when I was very young and have been in love ever since. I want to set some lobsters free in her honor.
Best of luck with the party tonight! I’m sure it will go smashingly. I’m going to tune in.
Ha. The jodphurs. I'll trot them out whenever I need a reminder of my silliness.
And yeah, I feel like setting some lobsters free in D's honor--and then letting someone ELSE steam and shell them with a side of drawn butter, lemon, baked potato, and corn on the cob--could be a marvelous way of communing with her spirit! 😂
Congratulations on another stellar publishing event and oh I so love how you describe your life! The jodhpurs! Trying to preorder Unfixed but having trouble. Xxx
GEN X WOMANHOOD is a real fucking thing, and thanks for always putting it in the spotlight! Please excuse me whilst i FACE DIVE into the plum torte! I like DK's work as an actress and singular talent, but also, fuck her for being a robust Woody apologist, y'know? Lastly, I didn't know there was a term for it, but have felt "distinctly improbable" my whole life, and am only just now coming to terms. So far it's mostly good, except for occasional fits of LIFE WTF!!?!? But maybe that's another signature of GenX Womanhood??
That plum torte is EVERYTHING. And I, too, have never understood the whole "Woody apologist" take. I know actresses often feel an undue loyalty to those who gave them that first break (as he did in the stage play of Play It Again, Sam), but it's telling that she said she'd never experienced trust with a man in her lifetime--when talking broadly about men. It felt like telegraphing. I think you are distinctly remarkable--isn't it lovely to come to that realization? 💛
Diane: Devastated. My daughter told me one hour after announced: Me: Speechless. Since the news, rewatching everything she was in, including FAB Charlie Rose compilation of his interviews with Diane.
Nothing like an old box from the past to jog those memories. Trinkets and journals and jodhpurs will get the them flowing, tears of laughter and what-the-fuck-happened-to-my-life are welcome. Your soul has taken you for quite the ride, and I’m glad you couldn’t return it because it’s brilliant in all its perfect unfixedness. Hand-in-hand, I’m so honored to walk some of this life with you beauty!
I was also going to ask you where you got those pyjamas, so thanks for that!
Was chatting with a friend last month about who my ‘spirit’ actress was, the one I most identify with when I see her on-screen, and my answer was Diane Keaton. And it was the same for her! So we are both feeling bereft, as it seems is the rest of the world. Sigh.
Oh, and congrats on unearthing your record player. And jodhpurs!
You know, unearthing all my scribbled-in Penelope Fitzgerald novels was also such a joy. How did I live without these? I wondered. I so needed these back!
"Illinois, you're my boy!" remember that lyric? Fogelberg (like Cross i suppose) had an undeniable sentimentality attached to his music which this post just re-ignited and damn if i didn't eat it up over one or two cross country trips to California from New England as a kid, lost but utterly dreamy. I'm sure in there was also a first taste of Diane Keaton in 'Bananas' ha.
I won't be able to attend the LIVE launch tonight as I'll be working. :-( But I'll be there in spirit, and then I'll be there in corporeal form on Thursday! Treated myself to some new autumnal author book lover attire for the occasion. See you soon!!! Best to Kimberly. 🥰🥂
Diane was an original. All the celebs I grew up with are departing. Every time, it feels like a piece of my childhood is disappearing into history.
When one of them dies, the ones I loved, I feel like I'm losing a family member, but not quite. Mostly because most of those celebs are nicer than my family...
Same. Except for my children and my sisters… they are extraordinarily funny. The rest. Pfft…
Double-pffft!
Same.💔

I’m looking into things with Simon & Schuster, right now, as they seem to have pushed back our print release date—stay tuned! xxx

Bereft is exactly the word, Wendy. Sigh.

I completely forgot about Bananas! I think that may have been Louise Lasser, no?
you are correct
my memory is SEVERELY compromised 🙃
🤔 maybe i should run for president 🫡
That cat's got the best spot : ) Yer lucky those boxes came back Alisa. Hint: Don't store at your mom's. Spring comes and it's bye bye
Alas, my mother has long since passed, but I am indeed lucky to get them back. :)
Mine too. I don't know about you, but she's still around here somewhere : )
I miss Diane too.
Skillet apple crisp could be my spirit animal.
