I’m in LA. I grew up here and never liked it. Even when I was 5 I asked my parents why would they leave New York. Hooks be gone. I’m here for my sis. 🙏

This one hits hard. It's a great topic, and I'll save it for an in-person discussion. Suffice to say that I've learned a valuable lesson in recent years, which is that when a place a has a deep hold on me I usually need to check myself, because often there is some associated trauma, and I need to work hard on that. Some of my places I used to idealize, which was also a mistake. Places in our history are inevitably bittersweet. They will break your heart just like people, and I know that now, and that knowing is also bittersweet.

So much wisdom here. Places will break our hearts... just like people.

that does sound creepy!! I happen to live in the same neighborhood I grew up in. The 70s version was grubby but very small town in the middle of a big town. Now it's off the charts fancy and the taxes are a burden and we would love to stay but honestly.....I love it here. My kids love it here. My parents love it here...Alas...

This is the thing... sometimes, we're tied in a good way and all the grubby bits are marks of authenticity and character. I felt that way about Bennington, Vermont. It had its patrician elements and lush fairy-esque woodland and the college, but it also had a rustbelt, old Vermonter vibe to it. Definite town and gown oppositions, but a place where generations form attachments.

Sometimes I feel anywhere but here . Hard for me to commit to here no matter where here is.

O'Hare in Chicago. Is a 9-hour delay normal? Great city: horrendous hub...

Ah, I'd forgotten to look up the Catamount, I'd read of them in the part of the Outlander series that was based in US East coast area and am sad to have learned they are extinct and not just being called something else (ie Puma, Cougar, Mountain Lion) now. You are a good daughter, nothing less than a chartered jet with a full crew (including mechanic) could get me to go wherever that is, best wishes!

Thanks Shire 💜 I'm with you on the chartered jet!

And it is sad about the Catamount. They were a fixture of Vermont that I've always wanted to write about because apparently, their cry sounds almost like a human child's and they'd often hide in trees... It's just so much good lore for a story :)
