It taught us everything from civics to grammar (adverbs, hello?) to math to the planets & ran 7+ seasons. If you grew up with Saturday morning cartoons, you had a favorite!
Oh, I KNOW, but isn't there a part where the big fat white senator comes up to him in the end and says, "He signed ya' Bill! Now, you're a LAW!" And everybody cheers??? I'll have to go back and look when I have enough brain in me, lol. xo
YES! Leave it to Sesame Street to teach amazing language acquisition, study skills, and cognitive processing in such a clear, simple way... Never mind modeling positive parenting validation and pioneering cultural inclusivity through better representation. All without overcomplicating things... What a gem find. Thank you for sharing!
Like Jane said, "Conjunction Junction" FTW and I still sing "Inter-planet Janet". I also Swedish Chef it with "Today we're going to make the chicken. Here chicky, chicky," when I'm making chicken. No Muppets are harmed in the process. xo
I LOL'd at this as woke up looking like Janice from The Muppets in my sleep mask! Wasn't Gonzo in love with a chicken named Camilla or something like that? xo
LOL. I believe Gonzo did love him some chick. Can't recall her name, though. And Janice is super cool. Feel good waking up like that. Animal, on the other hand... xo
I still get “Conjunction junction, what’s your function?” stuck in my head out of nowhere sometimes.
There was also something about making cheese and cracker sandwiches and calling them wagon wheels, but it may have been a commercial? Or maybe I dreamed it...
I still bust out randomly singing conjunction junction’s line “And, but, and or will get you pretty far...” when I think I'm being alluring, which is pretty much never.
And you didn't dream it! The wagon wheel cheese one was “hanker for a hunk of cheese” and it was the after-school snack suggestion by the weird cowboy egg creature who had spindly legs, telling you that “cheese is a winner, and it won't spoil your dinner!” Again, another TV parenting moment for latchkey kids... This explains a whole generation preparing for charcuterie boards! 😂
I feel the same about Conjunction Junction, Jane. And I think there was another series about healthy eating (sort of like "FYI"), because I remember the wagon wheels, but I don't recall the rest. (Guess they weren't as well produced.) xo
OMG, you are triggering all of my GenX synapses! It was “Don't Drown Your Food!” with Lewis the lifeguard who chirps “I'm Lewis the lifeguard and I'm happy to say I rescued a drowning potato today! It drowned in its sour cream! Ohhhh, what a shame! Because food's so much better when it's practically plain...” cue the chorus. I can't believe there was an anti-condiments campaign targeting a whole generation of latchkey kids broadcasters imagined were home alone feasting on sour cream and potatoes??? 😂
Love them all, but I’m Just A Bill always stuck with me. He looked so sad when he got rejected. 🥺

Yes!! And every little kid cheers, too!
I feel like I SHOULD be familiar with this show, but I think I might've been too young for this. I grew up with Sesame Street. LOL
I totally learned to read from Sesame Street! I was so mad when HBO bought the rights to it and suddenly people had to pay for it???
Really? I didn't hear about that! It was on PBS for free!
I know!? Always on PBS and then HBO bought it and took 200 episodes off the air... but finally gave certain new/old episodes back but with a 9-month delay on them... don't quote me. The whole thing felt so bogus. Here's the NYT piece on it... https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/20/arts/television/sesame-street-hbo-max.html#:~:text=Sesame%20Workshop%2C%20the%20nonprofit%20group,had%20aired%20for%2045%20years.
I LOVED Schoolhouse Rock. They made it hip and cool to learn. I don’t remember a favorite.
BILL is the one that lingers, but nothing form Schoolhouse Rock ever delighted me quite as much as this little ditty: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNghp9tPXjo

I’m singing it now. So good. 🥰
I felt like for Friday we needed a boost... I've been singing Conjunction Junction all morning 🥰.
Great boost. 🥰
