your backstory to cast dialogue sublime ie Cecily spitting up as if christening a new ship 🤣
i actually have been watching the Better Sister (i thought it read Sitter and with no flesh tempted to bail lol jk) and damn if it hasnt calmed and impressed with some great actors all around
the female lesbian cop must be bribing the writers but they give her some kick ass lines
It feels good to write silliness as a means of holding up a mirror to the world's absurdities and well... just plain wrongness.
I just watched The Better Sister too. I think Alafaire Burke is a fantastic writer. She gets so much done! TBS definitely gripped me even though I thought some of the directorial choices were uneven from episode to episode.
The only two things I didn't buy... 1) The casting of the son. I could not even begin to root for this kid. He was too pathetic and sweaty to be the genetic offspring of EITHER of those tidy actresses. I imagined them both demanding sanitizing wipes from set PAs every time they completed a scene with him. 2) I could not even begin to fathom why she would choose an affair with that twerp over Cory Stoll, who is so much more magnetic and interesting. The whole thing calls into question the ending. I need to go back and look at the book because... I need to know if there were Easter Eggs.
ummm i am still in the trial episodes but yeah that kid when he first hugs her i figured it was uhhhh lover/hubby? kid brother? i will have to sort out the male leads for hotness but yeah that guy was built uhhh good but i sense weenie all over it....jessica biel damn!!! where did she come from...dark angel yearrrrrrs ago? that haircut mesmerizing im weird i guess 🤣
You should be writing for SNL. What a sandbox it is--and the arguing between two narcissists was like boys throwing sand at each other. What you've written cuts to the core of the absurdity and the reality of fascism.
The LA invasion adds to the horror as does your comment about Abrego: " Pardon my little break from the usual fare. But is it just me, or does it feel like irony origami that the very thing the DOJ is accusing Abrego of… is exactly what they just did to him?"
Owen Wilson's new series STICK might help. I also thought Sirens was a coup though I found the ending with the two women on the ferry together getting along so well a bit hard to buy--though Julianne Moore was marvelous throughout as was Kevin Bacon who always delights.
The ending *was* hard to buy. It made me think they might be leaving some type of awkward opening for a second go. We'll see... I will check out STICK. And I am worried for our world, but I think we have to keep telling these idiots we're not afraid of them. We have to stay defiant.
GIRRRLLLLL I'd watch this show! "A Farrow & Ball color that’s honestly too bold for most mudrooms" is also the color of my rage at this administration, so thanks for clarifying that :)
Such fun, thanks. It’s a trippy, weird, profoundly f*^&ed up world, especially in the US. Parody and satire have to veer off into the surreal to have any impact.
Lord, protect us from this crazy Veep fever dream. I can just hear the wine moms in Vermont, carping in their barrel jeans and peasant blouses... "You could have just elected Kamala." Oh-la-la.
I was in a bar in Boulder with my son last night. There is such a high level of what feels like frantic energy to me. In similar places in Europe/Mexico these past five months there was not the frantic energy, just a good energy. The Europeans get together during the week from 4 pm on since they only work a 35 hour week (France) so Americans only have the weekend to bash is all out, drink, flirt hard. Sitting at dinner with a French family they reminded me that their education is paid for, healthcare is covered and retirement. I asked their daughter at 27 years old how much her pharmaceutical degree was going to cost her and she said, "Rien". No wonder they are so much more chill than we are.
Yes, I lived in France as a young married. We were both EU residents/citizens. It was the best healthcare and quality of life I've ever experienced. I am sorry almost every day that we moved back to the US. If I could rewind across the multiverse of life decisions and undo that one--it remains the one.
Laurie and I are suffering from the culture shock of our own country. Next year I have a plan to buy an oldish canal boat from a marina just south of Dijon. I would moor there from mid March till some time in April and work on the boat. Then Laurie joins me by May and we make our way north in the general direction of Paris and then on to Honfleur by the end of July. Then turn around and head back south slowly and be off the water by October. Cool plan, heh?
Thanks for thinking of us. 💕We’re okay. I’m worried for the innocent folks being rounded up. I guess we arrogantly thought this couldn’t happen in CA, but I guess that’s the point for the Despot in Chief and his cronies.
Three episodes into Sirens. Wasn’t totally sure at first but you’ve convinced me to carry on, Alisa, and now I’m hooked!
Your mini-script reminds me that yesterday I watched Mountainhead, and its satire was a bit too close for comfort. I can picture a weekend retreat for four of the world’s richest tech bros going something like that!
Oh gosh, I've been holding off on Mountainhead even though I so love Jesse Armstrong... but for the very reason you mention--too close for comfort. Sirens just spirals insanely--I won't ruin it, but I really want all those Vince caftans, lol!
Def not comedy, more eye candy. If not for the duds and the Vineyard-esque exteriors, I wouldn’t… the original play is an interesting exploration of the mother wound, which I am working on for a book.
i bet that felt good 🤗

The lady cop was spot-on!
ummm i am still in the trial episodes but yeah that kid when he first hugs her i figured it was uhhhh lover/hubby? kid brother? i will have to sort out the male leads for hotness but yeah that guy was built uhhh good but i sense weenie all over it....jessica biel damn!!! where did she come from...dark angel yearrrrrrs ago? that haircut mesmerizing im weird i guess 🤣
The haircut IS mesmerizing!
did i really say "female lesbian"? ahhhh fuck
(Makes the sign of the cross, mumbles a blessing of forgiveness!)
We've all done it. :)
A man so slippery he’s technically considered a sauce”
best line !! genius
I feel like Ina Garten and Martha would secretly high-five on that one. 😂
Hahaha! 😂 “A man so slippery he’s technically considered a sauce.” 😂 That and “Resting Scientology Face” killed me.
Oh, huzzah! I know if I've made you laugh--I've succeeded! 😂
me too!!!
safe "from a Farrow & Ball color that’s honestly too bold for most mudrooms" ...😂
💜 I owe you paperwork! I'm on it! I swear!
Somehow that line made it for me, too:)
lThat F & B is going to make those prison walls pop

Yep on the ending, but more key: solidarity defines freedom, and we must speak out against fascism.
1000 million percent.

SO the color of my rage. And isn't it absurd that the complementary color is: "Old White"?

I am positively 'Monkey Puzzle' with envy. 😂
Is that a very green tree?
I'm laughing at hummus saboteur and freaking out that the National Guard will be unleashed in LA tomorrow. WTF?
IKR? I get very worried about you, J, and Noodle! The Secret Service needs to set the bubble machine to "de-escalate" pronto!
Thanks for thinking of us. 💕We’re okay. I’m worried for the innocent folks being rounded up. I guess we arrogantly thought this couldn’t happen in CA, but I guess that’s the point for the Despot in Chief and his cronies.
There are waaaaaay too many innocent people and I too thought CA could shield itself.

Love it when you flex your screen writing muscles, Alisa!!
It's like this little release now and then... :)
Love this’
Awww. Thanks 🙏 that means everything coming from you! :)
We all have a sandbox. Love the visual absurdity.
Indeed! 💕
We could not get into Sirens. Great acting but apparently in the comedy genre? Hmmm.
Def not comedy, more eye candy. If not for the duds and the Vineyard-esque exteriors, I wouldn’t… the original play is an interesting exploration of the mother wound, which I am working on for a book.
Oohh. Didn’t know it was a play first. 👏👏
One of your very best.
Thanks, Susan. It was actually such a hoot writing it :)
