I love to make fun of reckless characters in crime thrillers. You know the ones who will just follow strangers to a house in the middle of the woods and then be shocked when they get drugged and kidnapped? It's so dumb but I love raging about how much of a death wish they have while still hoping they make it out.
I can't wait to see it and, even though I think Tom Cruise is a creepball, I am also looking forward to the next Mission Preposterous coming out soon. thanks.
Tom Cruise IS a total creepball, but agree there's too much else in the film that seems like a wildly good yarn. Plus, the world def. needs some magic right magic. ✨
I love that Alisa is finally gettin’ with the 90s and discovering the Now You See Me series of movies…my girls and I have had that in our rotation all along and with ALL Bridget Jones movies, the Kingsmen series, Noting Hill….funny how my twenty somethings love these movies…what is lacking in today’s films that they haves to go so far back to Colin Firth and Hugh? Something to think about…
For things I mock but secretly love?....it's not toe socks...I actually don't like those and am happy to mock them...but how about religion? I outwardly shun it (but don't mock it b/c that's mean) but inwardly love the discipline, the clear path, the suggested peace and answers to questions. And Instagram addiction...I pretend I don't loose hours in it but my phone will tell you differently...
I watched the original and LOVED it--I think I missed the second one due to divorce stress, but I adore all the 90s rom-coms! Nora Ephron even gave me my film grad school award! But that's such an interesting answer about a secret love... because I think so many of us long for clarity, peace, and a sense of connection to something higher than ourselves... so I see how that makes total sense! xo
I love magic unabashedly. I once saw Lance Burton in Vegas and am dying to see Penn & Teller. And I also had a great time at the Magic Castle! I'm a fucking nerdy birdie and proud of it.
I'm so open about my guilty pleasures— rom-coms—that I literally wrote a memoir about them. And I'm Jewish and wept when Pope Francis died and when the new Pope was revealed as an American Cardinal who speaks so many languages I can barely name them all! And he tweeted negatively about J.D. Vance's view of love. I already love this guy--so there! Not converting but loving ...
I think we're all hopeful that he'll be an inclusive and uniting force in the world. It was a treat to see people feeling a bit of collective effervescence after so much worry these last months. To see J.D. Vance rebuked was satisfying, no doubt! And yes... More rom-coms! ❤️❤️❤️
I will never forget my one visit to The Magic Castle in LA. What a wild place! Not all magicians are as cheesy as they're portrayed in this trailer haha. Blaine is the real deal. He lives and breathes magic, and he's super cool.
I make fun of man packs, but I secretly find them fascinating. Speaking of which, I watched the trailer for the new film 'Friendship' yesterday and I am SO in. Check it out:
Yikes! 'Friendship' looks INCREDIBLE. And the review: it's like "I Love You, Man, for sickos" is hilarious. Plus, Paul Rudd with that hint of menace? Eesh! I cannot wait to watch. Fab find :)
And, yes--I make fun of magicians, but then the MC completely blew me away. I was in awe. That we got a snarky Pope seems like just what the doctor (or God) ordered.😂
I love your post, but I actually giggled when I saw the "PS - I am a human typo. Amnesty appreciated." -- I absolutely relate!!! Thank you for the movie suggestion and the delight your PS brought me!
A friend of mine performs card tricks at the neighborhood bar. He’s damn good at it! I’m pretty sure it’s the equivalent of walking a puppy in the “pick up chicks” department.
Earlier, when the pope reveal happened, I started singing “I’m an American Pope” to the tune of “We’re an American Band” by Grand Funk Railroad. Total dork. I’ve been trying to think of my most embarrassing guilty pleasure, I think it’s probably that I love to sing along in the car to songs I’d totally make fun of if anyone cool was around like “Closing Time” by Semisonic or “Jumper” by Third Eye Blind. OMG — please burn after reading!!
Bahahaha! I'm such a nerd for rewriting and then badly singing the lyrics of songs I would easily mock. “Closing Time” is the PERFECT whiney-white-boy-song for this! "Poping Time... La-La-LA-La!" But so is Ann Margaret's "How Lovely to Be a Woman" from Bye Bye Birdie! Especially when you get to the part: "How lovely to be a Conclave and have one job to do... To pick out a Pope and train him and then when you are THROUGH! You've made him the Pope you want him to BE! Life's lovely when you're a Conclave, like WE!" Man, I so need to write a musical. 😂 https://youtu.be/O1ilu-ARtiY?si=NazaV_gieppTW-YU
🤣Love me some Ann Margaret! Please write a musical! Have you seen Kristen Wiig’s Ann Margaret impersonation from SNL? It slays me every time I watch it.
From the very first Now You See Me film I was sold! Can’t wait for the new one. They’re really fun and the magic literally leaves me with my mouth hanging open. For a long time the CW and their fodder of teen series were my guilty pleasure but alas they’ve been replaced by below deck down under
Yes, I can't wait either. And oh, how I loved the old CW teen series! Charmed! I confess I've never seen Below Deck, but I'll trust that they are true mindless candy :)
Yes indeed Charmed, Dawson’s Creek, One Tree Hill, Buffy, La Femme Nikita… such a pity they’re all gone 😢 as for the mindless eye candy on Below Deck yes, yes indeed! 😄

Also trashy shows like 90 day fiancé...
Oh my gosh, I totally yell at the telly! Don't do it! Don't make the Scooby-Doo mother all mistakes! 😂

Real
Housewives- OC, NYC, BH. to counteract my brain melting I am only
Allowed to watch while
On treadmill. A highly motivating deal. Oops. Southern Charm too. The more vapid the better.
The treadmill? That IS a good deal! 😂
I also loathe a witness. If my husband walks in and says in his Norwegian accent whuts dis? I scream get out get out get out. I can’t explain.
Ha! That makes it even funnier!
Anything to do with the British royal family - (I say I am above it but am endlessly fascinated!)
Soap operas ! the best tv ever; bring back All My Children and save daytime.
Be gone all the boring talk shows !
I agree! Soaps used to make great long-term jobs for cast and crew in NYC. It would be amazing to bring them back.

The "close magic" room at the MC is the best!
Right? It’s incredible!
Who has fine motor skills LIKE THAT? Only a robot or... an alien!
It’s UNNATURAL!

Whadup Gotham Girl! I am SO happy about Pope Leo.

Wow--puppies?!? Color me wicked impressed! 🤩
Online browsing. Not even shopping but I hide it from hubby, slamming shut the laptop if he walks in the room. I can achieve a zen state.
Oh, me too! I'm such an online window shopper... it's transcendental!

YES! Kristen is a GODDESS! I would completely clone myself to write a musical for her to live out her Ann Margaret fantasies! 😂😂
Yes, a social justice Pope might counterbalance the other stuff going on
Let us hope. I liked Charlotte Clymer's essay on things: https://charlotteclymer.substack.com/p/an-american-for-pope-and-a-great

Canada - but I am a Canuck cat that loves it. There you go.
Makes perfect sense!
